When people think of karate classes, they often think about young children practicing their “katas,” or forms, in a room filled with mats. Everyone is wearing a white uniform, and there are a number of different-colored belts being worn by the students and the instructors. The instructor likely has a black belt on, while the students are wearing white or yellow belts.
While this image is likely true throughout America, it doesn’t mean that karate is just for kids. Adults of all ages have discovered the benefits of training in karate, and at Cervizzi’s in North Reading, we’d love for you to join us for a class. You’re never too old to begin karate, and you can sign up for a class by contacting us today!
Beginners of All Ages
Every month at our martial arts studio, we get beginners of all ages. We have programs for kids, teens, and adults, and depending on your age, we’ll make sure you end up in the appropriate group. There’s a very good chance that there will be someone else in your class that is also a beginner, and you can find encouragement and support in knowing that you’re not the only new person that week. For any group training exercises, you can be paired with the other new person and move through each technique slowly. This can help you both learn at a pace that works for you.
Don’t Worry About Physical Condition
You might feel that you are too old to begin karate because you’re not as strong or as agile as you used to be. While you may have aged, martial arts can be a great way to get back in shape and help your body become strong and agile once more. Perhaps you used to have a strict training regiment that included running and weightlifting; now, you may want to try something different that isn’t quite as intense, but still provides you with weekly exercise. Karate can be the perfect balance for anyone who may be worried about their physical conditioning due to their age. It can be strenuous, but you can take your time with learning how to move and strike appropriately.
A Lifelong Pursuit
One of the great things about karate is that it is often a lifelong pursuit. Sure, you can achieve the highest ranks and earn all of your belts, but that doesn’t mean that you’re done with your training. Even if you don’t plan on participating in tournaments or competitions, you can keep training for the rest of your life. No matter when you start, it can be good to make a commitment to stick with karate for as long as possible. The physical, mental, and emotional rewards can make it all worthwhile, and you’ll likely make some great friends along the way.
